Coral delivers advanced filtration solutions across Asia for Luxottica

Coral Asia Atex Cartridge Filters Japan

Luxottica is a leading global company in the design, manufacturing, and distribution of premium, luxury, and sports eyewear. Founded in Italy, the Group owns iconic brands such as Ray-Ban and Oakley and produces eyewear collections for renowned fashion houses through exclusive licensing agreements. With an extensive retail network and a presence in over 150 countries, Luxottica combines Italian craftsmanship with innovative technologies to set the benchmark for quality and style in the eyewear industry.

Japan: managing titanium dust in Fukui

At the Luxottica facility in Fukui, Japan, Coral implemented a high-performance air treatment system specifically designed to handle titanium dust generated during precision manufacturing. Titanium, prized for its lightness and strength, presents significant challenges due to the flammability of its particles.

The installation includes two AIRALT360 cartridge filters rated for ATEX environments, each with a capacity of 25,000 cubic meters per hour, and a third unit dedicated to capturing additional particulate residues. All filters are ST1-certified for explosive dust applications, providing maximum safety and compliance with strict industrial standards. Thanks to these systems, the plant achieves a consistently clean environment, protecting both workers and equipment.

China: improving quality by controlling polycarbonate and acetate dust

In China, the Luxottica production site required an effective solution for capturing fine dust and chips from machining operations on polycarbonate, acetate, and other organic materials used in eyewear frames and lenses. This airborne contamination was affecting both the health of personnel and the consistency of the finished products.

Coral supplied an AIRALT360 ATEX dust collector paired with centrifugal fans equipped with acoustic enclosures to reduce noise emissions. The electrical control panels feature AHead technology for remote monitoring—although in this case, connectivity was disabled to comply with local regulations. The filtration system also integrates multiple safety measures, including Factory Mutual Approved spark detection and extinguishing devices, dual thermovelocimetric detection and filter flooding, triboelectric monitoring of filter media efficiency, and fire dampers for isolation. After installation, Luxottica reported a measurable decrease in defective parts attributed to airborne contamination.

Thailand: ensuring clean processing of titanium components

At Luxottica’s Thai facility, Coral was tasked with designing an extraction system for titanium dust produced during manual and automated polishing of components. This installation ensures that no residues—whether from the parts themselves or from machine abrasion—remain on the finished surfaces, preserving the highest quality standards.

The solution consisted of an AIRALT360 ATEX dust collector specifically rated for metallic dust, supported by centrifugal fans with certified ATEX compliance. Like the Japanese and Chinese projects, the Thai system incorporates sophisticated safety features: spark detection and deflection, dual thermovelocimetric sensors, emergency flooding, triboelectric filter monitoring, and fire dampers. The system is fully integrated into Coral’s remote management network, enabling the technical team in Italy to supervise performance in real time.

A commitment to excellence and safety

Through these three installations in Asia, Coral has demonstrated the ability to customize its technology to local needs and regulatory environments. From titanium dust control to the capture of organic machining residues, each project underscores Coral’s mission: to deliver advanced filtration solutions that safeguard workers, improve production quality, and set new benchmarks for the eyewear sector worldwide.
